Lyrically, Vespertine finds Bjork in a considerably vulnerable zone, musing on feelings of love and longing for isolated intimacy. The result is some of the darkest (‘Pagan Poetry’) and most intimate (‘Heirloom,’ ‘An Echo, A Stain’) work of her remarkable career.
